European Championships in Pontevedra/Spain
With the last races, Pontevedra didn’t have much luck with the weather. There was often rain with temperatures around 10°C.
Last weekend it was just the opposite. We had up to 35°C in the shade, the wind was same hot and the sun stood on the highest point at 12:30am, our start time. Even the water temperature was over 20°C, so that we swam without wetsuit.
The swim part went pretty well. In the second lap I lost some places, because a girl tried again constantly to grab my leg and a different one kicked her elbow with every stroke into my side. I really ask myself, why don’t the focus on swimming and isn’t it painful for them as well?
On the bike I was at the beginning in the second group, but we could soon catch the front pack. Due to the heat we didn’t road fast and I was quite happy to sit in the main pack.
But after a good transition, the same situation happened again, I was afraid of. My legs didn’t want to run. They felt like out of stone and I couldn’t even push myself. I still made a Top 20, finishing on 18th place.
I don’t understand what is wrong with me. My running times in training are really good and even the run of the bike sessions were good. On the bike I don’t have problems to follow and in the water I could show my usually performance.
I will analyze it again and hope that on the next race it will finally get better.
